Lobster Pots — print-and-play business game

Run a lobster-fishing business and end with the biggest balance. Every fisher gets a printed log sheet and, each day, splits their pots between the safe inshore (low catch) and the risky offshore (big catch — unless a storm destroys it). The teacher rolls the daily weather and draws event cards — loans from Biscoes Bank, cheap pots from Dodgy Dave, the Inspector's fines and more. A great context for money, multiplication and a bit of nerve.

How to use it, who it's for & FAQ

      How to use it

      1. Set the number of days and starting pots/cash, then “Print log sheets” — one per fisher.
      2. Each day, fishers split their pots between inshore and offshore on their sheet.
      3. In “Teacher tools”, roll the weather for the class, then draw any event card, the lottery number or a die.
      4. Work out each day's catch, buy pots, bank cash — biggest balance at the end wins.

      Who it's for

      • Teachers: a rich context for money, multiplication and risk — runs over a lesson or a series of starters.
      • Tutors: practise arithmetic and decision-making with a game that rewards planning.
      • Anyone: a light business/economics game for a group.

      FAQ

      How does the weather work?

Each day the teacher rolls for the class: around 75% of days are lovely (inshore £1, offshore £6 a pot) and 25% are storms (inshore £3, but every offshore pot is destroyed). It's the core risk of the game.

      What are the event cards?

Random events the teacher draws for everyone: Biscoes Bank loans, Dodgy Dave's cheap pots, Black Market Burt's triple prices, the Inspector's fines, Skilled Sally's skill bonus, Stock Clearance and Fish Toss.

Do I need to print anything?

Yes — print a log sheet for each fisher. The teacher screen has the weather roller, event cards, lottery draw and dice; there's nothing to print for that.

      Is it free and private?

Completely — no ads, no sign-up, and it works offline once loaded.
